Stephen Adams says, "Simon led a project to construct an approximately 1,000 square foot low deck in my yard using beautiful Brazilian ipe wood, as part of a big multi-month landscape project. My wife and I had an idea or inspiration of the deck design. Upon speaking with Simon, it was clear it is he who is the true visionary. He made recommendations on the design and came up with ideas for unique features of which we had not conceived. Simon approached the project not just from a carpenters perspective, but also thinking about the efficient use of space and how we would use the deck from a practical perspective with the family or when entertaining large groups. Working with the incredibly durable but very dense ipe wood and bringing to fruition our design idea was clearly a challenging project. But Simon didnt flinch. He knew how to work with ipe wood and the style of using clips to avoid showing nails or screws on the panels and directed his crew to make it happen. The ipe boards fit together like a puzzle and he used the craftsmanship and technique of clips to feature the luxurious natural wood, having the effect and appearance of a hardwood flooring. Simons workmanship was impeccable and it is so clear upon meeting and working with Simon how seriously he takes his work. He holds himself to a high standard and the finished product reflects this. The finished product of the deck was not only structurally sound but really a beautiful piece of art with fine edges and artistic notes. The deck includes two small staircases, three rebuilt in benches including one corner bench in which he had the idea during the project to float off the edge of the low deck - a really nice feature. The deck is backed by a beautiful redwood pergola and fence that Simon built, where we can grow vines and hang flowers from. The pergola was something we asked for and Simon developed the design. Simon worked very well with other professionals on the job including coordinating with the plumber installing the gas line to a fire pit and the landscaper leading the landscaping project in the yard. In addition to the deck work, I asked Simon if he could use some of the extra redwood from the fence for a platform for a shed. He noted that there was probably enough leftover wood to build the shed itself. We were incredibly amazed by the speed, efficiency, and care Simon took when he designed and constructed a new shed with a beautiful rolling barn door in no time at all. Simon also did additional projects around our yard including fixing another part of our fence and repairing our chicken coop. Hes incredibly versatile and he also chooses such a great crew to work with him - his mates have been top notch too."See more
