Nicole Thomas says, "My old "smart" thermostat died. I had originally hired a different company (that I will NEVER use again) because they were the company that had installed the HVAC system in my condo under the previous owner. This other company promised they could rewire/switch out my type of thermostat for another, did it incorrectly, "fixed" it with an overpriced upgrade of my told thermostat, but then my AC was not blowing cold (right before a 3-week heat wave). 3 different techs came and claimed different things, finally ending on two parts being broken on my compressor (keep in mind there were no issues prior to the thermostat dying/before this company messing with everything). Said part(s) would be in in a couple days and wouldn't tell me what it would cost (they just kept saying it was under warranty, which the parts are, but labor isn't). They shut off my system during that time telling me it was broken and wouldn't work anyway so I should keep it off. 3 weeks later with no AC and no update on when the parts were coming in and finally being told it'd be close to $1k in labor (and we had already paid $1.5k for the thermostat issues) I called around trying to find a company that worked with my type of unit (Lennox communicating system). Found Detmer/Ace Hardware and I'm so mad I didn't find them sooner. My technician was polite, knowledgeable, and thorough (and got scheduled for 1-2 days after calling). He tested the unit and tested the parts that the other company claimed were broken and they were fine. He got my "broken" AC working again just by turning it back on. He did spend time thoroughly checking the unit, and determined one of the "broken" parts wasn't broken exactly but wasn't acting quite right, advised replacing it but said the other part was fine. It was going into a weekend, yet they got the part ordered and in by Monday, company called me to schedule the install for the next day (at a more affordable labor cost than the other company was asking, who I still hadn't heard from despite calling them multiple times and being promised I'd get a call the moment the parts were in). He also noticed the other company had turned off my dehumidifier, and he turned it back on for me. Will never let another company touch my HVAC system. Detmer/Ace Hardware only from now on. This is how a company should be. Good communication, knowledge, professionalism, honesty, reasonable price, and good work."See more
